The Roseburg girls soccer team lost to Sheldon 7-0 on Tuesday night at Finlay Field in a Southwest Conference match.

3:49 AM · Sep 25, 2019

Sheldon led 4-0 at halftime. Roseburg (2-4, 0-2) moved Katie Knudson out of the goal and back onto the defensive line just before halftime. Amy Carpenter took over as goalkeeper for the Indians. “The defense got a little weird when Katie was in goal, so we moved her back in the field,” Roseburg coach Kristin Parks said. “We’re trying to find our perfect lineup. We talked about being more aggressive, in the 2nd half we felt they did better at anticipating, stepping to balls, cutting out passes. We were winning some 50-50 balls out of the air, which we typically haven't done before.” Madasyn Van Acker had some break away opportunities in the second half. “Kaitlyn Riley had a penalty kick in the second half and she didn’t realize that she couldn’t touch the ball after it hit the post, but it came back to her,” Parks said. “Just live and grow from these things. The score didn’t reflect the effort of our girls, they continued playing hard the whole night.” Roseburg lost Ellie Ronk last week to a transfer, she was a varsity starter last year. “We do a lot with what we have,” Parks said. “We just don’t have the same numbers and it’s frustrating but were going to continue to do the best we can.” Roseburg plays at North Medford on Saturday at 1 p.m.
