New Golf Pro Reflects on His First Year at Roseburg C.C.

7:12 PM · Dec 14, 2021

Karl Hamilton arrived at Roseburg Country Club on November 1, 2020 as the new PGA Head Golf Professional which also helped him move back closer to his family. Hamilton’s oversees a variety of aspects from private instruction, jr. golf camps, golf shop inventory, cart maintenance, running outside tournaments and member exclusive events. He also manages the training and hiring of golf staff along with looking at ways to improve the golf operations. “Upon my arrival, my entire goal since starting has been to develop the club into a family-oriented environment,” Hamilton said. “To do this, we have created multiple member tournaments, I have developed a Jr. Golf program for summertime and also have a few fun events throughout the year that are Member based but allow those members to bring friends to enjoy the experience.” Hamilton grew up in Huntington Beach, California and played golf in Junior College at Orange Coast College after he started playing at 19 when his baseball career ended after an arm injury. The game of golf has provided various life lessons and helped provide a new perspective. “Golf is very humbling. You can hit bad shots on your best days and great shots on your worst,” Hamilton said. “The game of golf has helped me to slow down and enjoy the surroundings of life. There are a lot of times we get so fixed on a singular moment, that we lose thought on everything going on around us. Golf helped me in a very difficult time that has given me a better understanding as I look back at those times.” The welcome that Karl has received after moving to Roseburg has been heartfelt. “Everyone, and I mean everyone has been genuinely kind and helpful,” Hamilton said. “The decision to move closer to my family was the biggest factor for coming here to Roseburg. My family was always in my life daily until 2018 when they moved to Creswell. The surprising part about coming up here is I moved for family but feel like I became a part of a larger collective family which is the community of Roseburg. I can’t say enough kind things about so many people within this community.” As far as 2022 goes there are plans for Roseburg C.C. to host bigger and better member events and Jr. Camps in the summer. The club will also be hosting both the U.S. Kids Tournament and a OGA Major Jr. Tournament in August. “I can’t wait to see how it all plays out and to help the community embrace Golf as a positive thing for kids to be outside with friends and enjoy some competition.” Hamilton said.
