Late this afternoon we learned about an injured Coopers Hawk out in Green. So Abraham and I got out there as fast as we could. It was pretty weak by the time we got there, but we arranged to get it to Umpqua Wildlife Rescue rehabber Meriann Shepherd. Once we got back onto the road, the hawk made it about another 5 minutes before it peacefully passed away. It was in a warm place on a towel inside a pet carrier when it passed. It's one of the hard parts of wildlife rescue, the times the birds and animals can't be saved. Comfort comes from knowing we tried and did our best. They're such amazing creatures. We appreciate Christine Yarbrough for letting us know about the hawk and Meriann for being willing to take it in. ๐
