108 Douglas County Residents Now Hospitalized

COVID-19 UPDATE FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2021: As of 12:00 pm today, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, there are ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-THREE (143) people with new positive test results, FOUR (4) new presumptives and TWO (2) new deaths to report, bringing the total number of cases of people with positive test results and presumptives in Douglas County to 8,927*. Currently, there are ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT (108) Douglas County COVID-19 patients that are being hospitalized, seventy-seven locally and thirty-one out-of-the-area, including two that have been transferred out of the state for specialized care not available here. We continue to work with Mercy to provide information on our COVID patients being hospitalized locally: 10 ventilators (invasive mechanical airway support) and 21 BIPAP’s (Non-invasive ventilation for breathing support) machines are currently in use, 11 COVID positive patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 23 are in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). 61% of the total hospitalized patients at Mercy are COVID positive. Of our hospitalized cases today, ONE HUNDRED AND ONE (101) out of the 108 are not fully vaccinated. COVID-19 WEEKEND RECAP FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2021: On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 12:00 pm we had ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SEVEN (137) people with new positive test results and FOUR (4) new deaths to report bringing our total number of cases of people with positive test results and presumptives in Douglas County to 8,780*. We had ONE HUNDRED AND NINE (109) Douglas County COVID-19 patients hospitalized, eighty locally and twenty-nine out-of-the-area, including two patients that have been transferred out of the state for specialized care not available here. We continue to work with Mercy to provide information on our COVID patients being hospitalized locally: 11 ventilators (invasive mechanical airway support) and 19 CPAP’s (Continuous positive airway pressure) machines are currently in use, 11 COVID positive patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 26 are in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). 64% of the total hospitalized patients at Mercy are COVID positive. Of our hospitalized cases on Tuesday, ONE HUNDRED AND THREE (103) out of the 109 are not fully vaccinated. COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS OF DOUGLAS COUNTY RESIDENTS Our Douglas County Public Health Officer, Dr. Robert Dannenhoffer, has confirmed the deaths of six more Douglas County residents related to the COVID-19 virus. Our one hundred and thirty-fifth COVID-19 related death was a 54-year-old man who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Friday, August 20, 2021 and passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021. He was not vaccinated. Our one hundred and thirty-sixth COVID-19 related death was an 83-year-old man who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Monday, August 16, 2021 and passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021. He was fully vaccinated. Our one hundred and thirty-seventh COVID-19 related death was a 64-year-old woman who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Monday, August 2, 2021 and passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. She was not vaccinated. Our one hundred and thirty-eighth COVID-19 related death was a 53-year-old woman who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Sunday, August 15, 2021 and passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021. She was not vaccinated. Our one hundred and thirty-ninth COVID-19 related death was a 68-year-old man who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Saturday, August 7, 2021 and passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. He was not vaccinated. Our one hundred and fortieth COVID-19 related death was a 55-year-old man who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Thursday, August 19, 2021 and passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. He was not vaccinated. In the interest of privacy for the loved ones of these residents, no additional information will be released. Each death related to COVID-19 is painful for all Douglas County residents, and a sad reminder of the terrible impact COVID-19 has had in our local communities. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners, Dr. Dannenhoffer, DPHN and the DCCRT team extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to all family members, friends, relatives, co-workers and community members of those who have passed after contracting this deadly virus.
