2:39 AM · Aug 29, 2021

Angel Flores scored three goals and the Roseburg High School boys soccer team downed Crater 4-2 in their season-opener Saturday afternoon at Finlay Field. Tyson Bustamante put Roseburg up to start the game in the first half on a penalty kick. That really seemed to give Roseburg a big confidence boost. Crater answered a few minutes later and tied the game at 1-1. Flores then added his first goal before halftime to put Roseburg up 2-1. In the second half, Flores added another goal to put Roseburg up 3-1, but Crater answered again to keep the game close at 3-2. But Flores wasn't done, and he connected again on an absolute blast from 30 yards out to put Roseburg back up by two goals. The season-opening win was also the first win for new head coach Ronnie Bustamante, who took over this year after Jim Giraudo stepped down after last season. "It was a great start to the season and I am excited to be a part of it this year." Bustamante said. Bustamante liked how Roseburg started off the game. "First 15-20 minutes was the ideal tempo we want to play at. We have a strong foundation in place for the season. It's a great opportunity for us to build off of going forward." "Bryson Trenkle had a solid game in the midfield. He stopped a lot of counterattacks. Angel Flores had a great game finding opportunities to take shots on goal. Overall, the whole team did a great job." Bustamante said The Roseburg JV team also won 3-0 today. Roseburg (1-0) next plays down at Eagle Point on Tuesday at 6 pm.
