Fire Danger Moving to Extreme in Umpqua National Forest
12:36 AM · Jul 15, 2021The Umpqua National Forest is increasing the fire danger to EXTREME on all ranger districts across the forest, effective at 12:01 a.m. July 15th, 2021. Currently the Umpqua National Forest is operating at Industrial Fire Precaution Level 3, as well as Public Use Restrictions (PUR’s) Level 2. Fire danger is quickly increasing across the country and more recently across the Northwest. The Northwest region has entered preparedness level 5 and is engaged on several large fires across Washington and Oregon. On the Umpqua National forest, in addition to being engaged with the Jack Fire, other scientific factors such as low fuel moisture, high energy release components, and dry weather conditions with no forecasted precipitation have created the conditions for a sustained wildfire season. “We are seeing conditions and fire behavior this year that are months ahead of what we have historically seen” says Detailed Forest Fire Management Specialist Sara Billings. Please enjoy your public lands and help us keep them, and you, protected, by minimizing fire ignitions.
