Aviva Health & ESD Opening Dedicated COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic For Youth 12+
12:21 AM · May 17, 2021Aviva Health is opening a dedicated COVID-19 vaccination clinic site located at 4221 NE Stephens St., Suite 101 – just across the street from its main Roseburg location near Costco – Tuesday, May 18, at 8 a.m. Aviva Health was the first local health care organization to hold a mass COVID-19 vaccination event at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and has since held several vaccination clinics in outlying areas of the county and at its main Roseburg location. All the while, Aviva Health has continued to offer medical, dental and behavioral health care from its eight sites of service, though the integration of the wide-scale vaccination effort into its daily workflow strained its clinical capacity. The new vaccination site, which has its own dedicated clinical staff, will ease those workflows while still giving area residents convenient access to the COVID-19 vaccine. “This is an important resource for community members who want to receive their COVID-19 vaccination,” says Christin Rutledge, vice president of Community Health at Aviva Health. “It couldn’t have come at a better time, as the CDC, Oregon Health Authority and Douglas Public Health Network are opening the vaccine to people as young as 12 years old.” Aviva Health, in cooperation with Douglas Education Service District (Douglas ESD), will host a COVID-19 vaccination event at the new site for people 12 and older Saturday, May 22, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. “We’re excited to once again partner with Douglas ESD to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to school-age children and teens,” Rutledge says. “As more and more people are protected from the virus we move closer to returning to some semblance of normalcy.” “The partnership Douglas ESD has formed with Aviva Health is an example of community-minded organizations who come together to offer hope,” says Michael Lasher Douglas ESD superintendent. “We previously worked together to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to educators and seniors, and now we get to offer the same opportunity to our youth who have been directly impacted by restrictions related to the pandemic.” In addition to the Douglas ESD partnership, Aviva Health has collaborated with Douglas County Commissioners, Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team, and DPHN to effectively respond to the pandemic. The collective effort has resulted in thousands of area residents receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Parental or guardian consent is required to vaccinate people 12 to 14 years old, but this consent requirement does not necessarily require that a parent or guardian go with the youth to receive the vaccination. Written consent can be obtained in advance. Under Oregon law, minors 15 years of age and older may consent to medical treatment, including vaccinations, when provided by a physician, physician assistant, naturopath, nurse practitioner, dentist or optometrist, or other professionals operating under the license of these providers; however, families are encouraged to make decisions about vaccinations together. The new vaccination clinic is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To schedule an appointment during the week or for the May 22 event, please call (541) 672-9596. Via Aviva Health
