Coronavirus Vaccine Arrives in Roseburg at Mercy Medical Center
12:44 AM · Dec 19, 2020Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg started administering the first doses of the Coronavirus vaccine Friday. The state of Oregon had received the vaccine earlier in the week and immediately started dispersing to hospitals across the state. Hospitals have been prioritized for the vaccine and Mercy received their first allocation yesterday. Several hospitals in the metro area and a few in Eastern Oregon have already received shipments. Mercy began conducting a pilot today of their vaccination process which will then be rolled out across the organization. They've created a prioritization plan that reaches the most at risk staff, caring directly for COVID+ patients, and then will follow with staff who have less risk. All hospital staff are eligible to receive the vaccine at no cost. Receiving the vaccine will not be mandatory. “We are very pleased to be part of this historic event. We want to assure the community that we feel confident of the efficacy of the vaccine and are willing to be the first in Douglas County to receive it.” Said Mercy’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jason Gray, Today’s pilot included a small group of multidisciplinary staff including Dr. Gray, Dr.Brad Robinson, infectious disease specialist, and other physician leadership, nursing leadership, administration and front line staff.
