Umpqua National Forest to Discuss Reopening Forests Later This Week
12:31 AM · Sep 23, 2020(UNF) The Umpqua National Forest staff is aware that hunters and other forest users and recreationists want to access public lands. There is a forecasted rain event for the area expected Wednesday night through Friday. The rain will help cool hot spots throughout the areas of #archiecreekfire and #ThielsenFire, reduce existing fire activity, and reduce the potential of new starts. The priority of Forest Management is to provide for the health and safety of the public while also reducing the risk of wildland fire. Forest staff will meet later this week to discuss the reopening of forest areas and reducing the footprint of area closures where it will be safe to do so. Once those areas have been identified, a statement will be posted on this page. Questions may be addressed to the Umpqua NF Headquarters Office at 541-957-3200 Monday-Friday, during regular business hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Photo by Amber Nelson Forest Archaeologist.
