Flash Flood Watch in Effect For Glide Area Tonight From Possible Thunderstorms
3:34 PM · Sep 17, 2020(NWS) A low-pressure system will approach the Pacific Northwest today bringing showers across portions of southern Oregon and northern California form Klamath County westward to the coast. Along with the showers, a few thunderstorms will also be possible. The best chance for thunderstorms will be in the Cascades and the eastern Douglas County northward. This includes the Archie Creek and Thielsen Fires. These storms could become strong or even severe, with gusty winds to 60 mph and hail the size of quarters. Flash flooding is possible near burn scars. The good news is that the showers will start bringing some much-needed rain to the area and some of these fires, particularly overnight Thursday into Friday. Flash Flood Watch Issued for Douglas County A flash flood watch is in effect from 5 pm this afternoon to 11 pm tonight. The primary areas for the watch are in the vicinity of the Archie Creek and Thielsen fires. Heavy rain will be possible from late this afternoon through this evening across the Cascade Foothills. This may result in loose debris in the vicinity of steep recently burned areas. Areas such as Glide and sections of Highway 138 near Archie Creek fire and the area around Diamond Lake will be exposed to debris potential. Precautionary Actions A flash flood watch means there is a potential for debris flows base on current forecasts. Monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flash flood warnings. Debris flows are possible during this storm event. People, structures, and roads located below steep slopes, in canyons, and near the mouths of canyons may be at serious risk from debris.
