Aviva Health Building Project Underway

6:21 PM · Jul 23, 2020

Aviva Health is embarking on a comprehensive building project to ensure the people of Douglas County have greater access to high-quality primary medical, dental and behavioral health care. The project includes the construction of a brand-new, two-story facility on land owned by Aviva Health that sits just north of its existing main Roseburg clinic near Costco. Also included in the project is a renovation of space within the existing building that will improve patient flow, maximize clinical efficiencies and ultimately allow providers and their staff to deliver better care. The impetus for this effort is the launch of Roseburg Family Medicine Residency Program, a partnership between Aviva Health and CHI Mercy Health, that at its peak will annually train 24 physicians to become Board-certified family medicine doctors uniquely suited to care for people in rural environments. After residents complete their training, Aviva Health is confident many of those physicians will choose to stay and practice right here in Douglas County and other areas of rural Oregon. Construction of a new parking lot has already begun and plans are in place to break ground on the new building in the fall of this year. “We look at this project as an investment in our community through expanded access, better care, job infusion and attracting talented physicians fresh out of medical school to hone their skills and put down roots in Douglas County,” says Aviva Health CEO KC Bolton. “The positive impacts it will have on the health of our community – not just from a medical perspective, but from an economic perspective, too – will be far reaching, so we’re excited to get this project underway.” Aviva Health anticipates construction will be completed in the winter of 2021-22. In addition to adding much needed clinical and exam room space, the new building will also include three large conference rooms that will be available to non-profit organizations at no charge to hold meetings, special events and other substantially sized gatherings. “In planning this project, we really wanted to explore a variety of community needs, not just those related to health care,” Bolton says. “With that in mind, we were very deliberate in our efforts to include in the building resources that would offer meaningful benefits to partner organizations and other groups.” An orientation around offering viable solutions to address community needs is in Aviva Health’s DNA, Bolton says, pointing to his organization’s actions to support Douglas County Commissioners and Douglas Public Health Network with their COVID-19 response and the opening of a clinic in North County to provide care in a region Oregon Health Authority described as having the greatest unmet health care needs in the entire state.
