Dr. Stewart's Baseball Will Return To Action Next Week

The Dr. Stewart’s baseball team is returning to action at Champion Car Wash field next Friday for a Father’s Day weekend tournament. “We were able to select 20 guys and we’ve got a good group together here.” Dr. Stewart’s coach Jeremiah Robbins said. “We have 12 returners from last year’s team and eight new guys so were in a good spot.” The Docs will be hosting a Father’s Day tournament on June 19, 20 and 21 at Champion Car Wash field at Bill Gray Stadium where they can host up to 250 fans in the stands. “The first 3 weekends we’re playing in tournaments,” Robbins said. “Then we get into doubleheader play but we open up here first then we’re in Medford and then back here for a Fourth of July weekend tournament. There are a lot of safety concerns and were following all of the guidelines and protocols to keep everyone safe.” The Docs will play the Eugene Challengers at 12:30 p.m. and the Eugene Athletics at 3 p.m. next Friday. They will play Klamath Falls at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Medford at 6 p.m. to cap off the tournament on Father’s Day. “We’re getting connected again and out there competing and having fun,” Robbins said. “That’s important. We’re going to be able to have 250 people in the stands. It’s good for us and good for the community as well.” The Douglas County high school summer league something Robbins has put together will feature eight local teams in a makeshift league. The league is separate from the Docs team. The league will include two Roseburg teams, UVC, Glide, Douglas, South Umpqua, Sutherlin and North Douglas.
