Trail Fire Grows to 800 Acres, Forest Closure Issued on Portion of Umpqua National Forest

Effective immediately, a forest closure has gone into effect today, Thursday, July 18, 2024, on a portion of the Umpqua National Forest in response to fire activity to protect public and wildland firefighter safety. This closure located on the Diamond Lake Ranger District is in direct response to the Trail Fire, which has reached an estimated 800 acres. While much of the forest still remains open to the public, the following acts are prohibited upon trails and general forest areas within the Umpqua National Forest as described below and shown in Exhibit A (pictured). This Order is effective beginning July 18, 2024, and ending January 15, 2025, unless rescinded sooner. PROHIBITIONS: 1. Being on the closed road. [36 CFR § 261.54(e)] 2. Going into or being upon an area closed for the protection of public health and safety. [36 CFR § 261.52(e)] 3. Being on a closed trail. [36 CFR § 261.55(a)] The Trail Fire Closure is described as beginning at the of intersection of Highway 138E and Spruce Creek, following Highway 138E south to the unnamed creek north of the intersection of Highway 138E and Highway 230, following the unnamed creek east to FST (Forest Service Trail) 2000 Pacific Crest Trail, following FST 2000 north to FST 1456, following FST 1456 west to FST 1458, following FST 1458 north to the intersection of FST 1458 and Spruce Creek, following Spruce Creek northwest back to the point of origin at the intersection of Highway 138E and Spruce Creek. Sections of FST 2000 (The Pacific Crest Trail) as well as sections of FST 1456 and FST 1458 are closed, as is Forest Service Road (FST) 4700-800, Diamond Lake Viewpoint. Additionally, while it is not located within the bounds of this closure area, the Diamond Lake Campground and Diamond Lake Visitor Center are closed starting today, Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21, 2024. The forest will reevaluate the campground and visitor center closure on Sunday, July 21. Reservation cancellation emails, including how to get a refund, have been sent via Recreation.gov to reservation holders. Via U.S. Forest Service Umpqua National Forest
