4:46 AM · Sep 19, 2023

RIDDLE, Oregon — Exciting changes are on the horizon for the residents of Southern Douglas County, as the Riddle Roots Community Projects proudly announces the kick-off event for the future home of the Riddle Activity Center (RAC). The event will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm at 460 E 5th Avenue, Riddle, Oregon. An Ambitious Community Endeavor The Riddle Activity Center is planned to be one of Oregon's most comprehensive community spaces, tailored to meet the unique needs of the regional area. The center aims to support long-term employment, add new jobs to the community, and offer a wide array of programs to improve public well-being. It is intended to be much more than just a building; the RAC aims to be a cornerstone for community transformation. Key focus areas for the RAC include reducing youth exposure to violence, abuse, and crime, as well as improving poverty, graduation, and attendance rates. In addition, the center will offer avenues for retirees and senior citizens to remain engaged and healthy. A Peek into the Facilities Some of the opportunity spaces and community support programs slated to be part of the RAC include a fitness center with an indoor track, a gym featuring a double basketball court that can also accommodate roller skating, pickleball, and volleyball. Furthermore, there will be a dining hall with a commercial kitchen, indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, a stage for performances, STEM/STEAM programs, a covered playground, and childcare services. Event Details The kick-off event will be a celebration of community spirit and shared aspirations. The event kicks off at 2:30 pm with activities, games, and refreshments available for all attendees including Fry Bread. For the younger crowd, a bouncy house will be set up for added fun! From 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, hot dogs, chips, and cookies will be served, along with a Q&A session where community members can learn more about the project. The main event—the sign unveiling—will happen from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, featuring announcements and acknowledgments of major donors, county commissioners, and other key community figures.
