Northern Pygmy Owl Rescue
3:55 AM · Jan 16, 2024Early this evening, I got a message about an injured Northern Pygmy Owl located in the Hucrest neighborhood here in Roseburg. Katrina Scott had been running when she saw the little owl lying motionless in the middle of the road. Fortunately, she had gloves on, and she was able to pick up the owl and move it onto some soft bark mulch out of harm's way. I made it over shortly after that and was able to capture the owl and get it into a crate. Again, it was a good thing I had thick leather gloves on as these little owls are fierce, and have very sharp talons and beaks! I then transferred the owl to Marc Shepherd and Meriann Shepherd. Meriann is our raptor rehabber at Forever Wild Wildlife Rescue and she already examined the owl this evening. It has a head injury, and likely flew into the side of a car, which is why it was lying in the road. It's very alert and still bites hard, so we are hoping it will make a full recovery. Thank you again to Katrina for moving the owl out of the road and getting ahold of us! Also, big thank you to both Marc and Meriann Shephard for all that you do for these owls!
