High Winds & Possible Thunderstorm Expected in Douglas County Wed/Thurs

The beautiful weather in Douglas County is set to shift quite a bit later in the day on Wednesday as a pretty powerful storm hits the region. Expect winds to begin to pick up on Wednesday afternoon and there is also a possibility of a Thunderstorm late in the afternoon Wednesday. More severe weather is possible for Oregon but that is most likely to impact areas up closer to Salem and Portland. Wednesday Douglas County might have an hour or so of thunderstorm activity in the afternoon according to the NWS in Medford. The worst of the storm should hit mostly to the north of our area. Winds - we could see wind gusts up to 29 mph late Monday afternoon. Thursday Wind- Gusts throughout the day could reach 30 mph or more again. Oregon Coast Beaches Here is a high surf warning from the NWS "A long-period swell around 25 feet from approximately 220 degrees will hit the Oregon coast on Thursday, resulting in large breaking waves along the beaches. Surf heights will range from 28 to 33 feet throughout most of Thursday. Surf heights are expected to decrease by Thursday evening into Thursday night. These extremely large breaking waves will create very hazardous conditions along beaches and area shorelines. Waves will inundate beaches and surge into normally dry areas. Infrastructure damage and significant beach erosion can be expected. Beaches and coastlines will become dangerous due to very large and life-threatening surf conditions. Safety Advisory: Stay off beaches, rocks, jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. /DW"
