CAMAS VALLEY, ORE: On Thursday, August 1, 2024, at approximately 1:04 p.m., crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) Douglas County Sherriff’s Office (DCSO), Tenmile Rural Fire District, Camas Valley Rural Volunteer Fire District, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, Glide Rural Fire Protection District, Riddle Fire Protection District, Sutherlin Fire Department, Oregon State Police (OSP), Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), and Douglas Electric responded to reported ½ an acre grass fire, with a column of smoke detected and confirmed by DFPA’s camera detection operators. Due to the quick-moving grass fire and its proximity to structures, DFPA and Structural command agreed to initiate evacuations with DCSO. Level 3 evacuation orders were initiated for six homes between the 16900 and 17100 blocks of Highway 42 and the 800-900 blocks of Kirkendahl Rd. Thanks to the collaborative work by all responding agencies, the estimated 6-acre fire's forward spread was knocked down at approximately 3:30 pm, allowing the safe decrease of evacuations in place. As of 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, this fire is 100% lined and in mop-up status. Crews will continue to work in the area until it is 100% mopped up and in patrol status. All evacuations have been canceled. This fire is human-caused and is currently under investigation. This will be the only DFPA press release for this fire. Via DFPA
