Crater Lake Now Has 13 Feet of Snow, 52 Inches Higher Than Average

Crater Lake National Park is continuing to have a great winter, with the current snowpack levels significantly higher than the historical average for this time of year. As of March 24, 2025, the snow depth at Crater Lake stands at an impressive 156 inches. This data comes from the Crater Lake NP Cooperative Observers, who have been diligently tracking snow levels. Typically, on this date, the snow depth at Crater Lake averages around 104 inches, based on historical data from 1991 to 2020. This means the current snowpack is about 50% deeper than what is normally expected, marking a substantial increase. The graph of daily snow depth for the 2024-2025 season shows a steady climb through the winter months, peaking above 175 inches in early February before settling at the current 156 inches. In contrast, the average snow depth for this period, shown as a dashed line, peaks closer to 120 inches and begins a gradual decline by late March.
