Troost and Calkins Face Summer Delays for Drainage Project
6:25 PM · Jun 20, 2023Motorists are advised to brace for weekday delays and lane closures on Troost Street and Calkins Avenue starting Monday, June 26. This disruption comes as the city embarks on a significant storm drainage pipe installation project, which will continue throughout the summer until its expected completion in September. The project involves the installation of approximately 1,100 linear feet of 36-inch and 24-inch diameter storm drainage pipe on Troost Street, stretching from Calkins Avenue to Witherspoon Avenue. Additionally, the project will witness the installation of about 800 linear feet of 12-inch diameter storm pipe in the 2100 block of Calkins Avenue. Work is scheduled to take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday, in a bid to minimize disruption during weekends. This infrastructural enhancement is being funded by a $1,570,064 grant from the American Rescue Plan Act, specifically routed through the State Fiscal Recovery Fund for storm improvement projects. During the construction period, lane closures and detours will be inevitable as efforts will be focused on routing vehicle traffic away from the work zone. The city administration acknowledges the inconvenience this might cause and appreciates motorists’ understanding and patience throughout the project duration. Drivers are also being urged to exercise caution when traveling through the work zone to ensure the safety of both the construction workers and other road users.
