Umpqua National Forest Campground Update
5:22 PM · May 26, 2022As you are making your Memorial Day weekend plans, here are a few pointers if you're camping on the Umpqua National Forest. Campgrounds not yet open: • All Diamond Lake campgrounds are still closed. We have crews working hard at removing danger trees and getting all other necessary amenities ready to go so when those campgrounds do open up sometime in mid-June, you’ll have a safe and enjoyable experience. • Hemlock Campground won’t be open for camping this weekend but we are hopeful to have it open either next week or the week after. We are carefully assess snowpack and danger tree removals and should know for certain of the opening date next week. • Broken Arrow and Thielsen View campgrounds are unlikely to open until the 2nd or third weekend in June. A lot of our preparation work necessary to make these campgrounds safe have had to be delayed to do snow levels. Stay tuned for updates. Campgrounds now open or opening this weekend: • East Lemolo (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63492), Bunker Hill (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63466), and Inlet (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63508) campgrounds will be available for camping starting tomorrow. Poole Creek (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63570) campground has had its danger tree work done and now is just awaiting a water test of the stream and should be available this weekend as well. • While some of our popular reservation campgrounds might not be available for this weekend, we offer lots of great first come-first serve campgrounds too. Little River (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=75131), Steamboat Falls (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63746), Wolf Creek (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63760), Coolwater (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63680), White Creek (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63754), and Lake in the Woods (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/recarea/?recid=63724) campgrounds all offer campsites, so don’t let a lack of reservation sites stop you from having a wonderful camping experience. As always, we know camping can be such an enjoyable experience that can provide experiences that make memories for a lifetime. So let’s make sure those memories are about safety, too. Never leave a campfire unattended and ensure your fire is completely out and cold to the touch before leaving it. Clean up all trash and food waste. Beyond leaving things in good shape for the next camper, cleaning up also helps to keep animals wild and safer for everybody since food being left out attracts bears. Have a wonderful time in the woods this Memorial Day weekend! Via U.S. Forest Service - Umpqua National Forest
