Roseburg Public Schools Seeks Volunteers to Oversee Proposed Bond
11:21 PM · May 2, 2022If the Roseburg Public Schools Bond passes on May 17, the district wants to ensure the community is leading projects. The district is seeking volunteers to help oversee the projects and spending that would come from the May 2022 bond. “I am so grateful for the way our community stepped up to participate in the bond development process this school year,” Superintendent Jared Cordon said in a press release. “Vibrant schools are key to a vibrant community, and working together is the best way to achieve our hopes and dreams for the future. If the bond passes, I look forward to making sure local residents continue to play a vital role in completing these projects for our schools.” A Community Bond Development Committee was formed in August 2021 to review the district’s facilities needs and recommend a bond proposal to the School Board. The committee was made up of school staff, parents, and community and business partners. The $154 million measure would allow the district to address health, safety and security; update and repair aging schools; expand student opportunities; and rebuild the Old Main at Roseburg High School so that it meets modern construction and safety standards while maximizing student learning opportunities. If passed, funds raised could only be spent on projects approved by voters. Also if passed, the district would receive state matching funds of $5.8 million to go toward the proposed projects. If the bond does not pass, these projects would not be completed and the district would not receive the state matching funds. To learn more about the proposed bond, visit www.roseburgschoolbond.org.
