River Surfing on the North Umpqua River

As this past weekend's storm moved into the area most people were thinking about how much snow was going to fall up in the mountains. Conway Bixby on the other hand was thinking about when the river would rise to just the right height to create the perfect river surfing wave. Most people think of the ocean when the topic of surfing comes up. However, you just need a ridable wave to surf and it turns out the Umpqua Rivers have several ridable waves. Yesterday, we caught up with Conway Bixby during his surf session on the North Umpqua River up past Glide. Bixby is a 17 year veteran in the Oregon River surfing scene and spent much of the past few decades out in the Bend area.
