Douglas County Hosts Largest Drive-Through Vaccine Clinic to Date
(DCCRT) Your Douglas County Board of Commissioners, DPHN and Aviva Health collaborated to host their largest mass drive-through vaccine event to date in Douglas County on Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The team of more than 102 county employees, DPHN employees, Aviva Health employees, health care workers and volunteers successfully administered 186 Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccines, 1,068 Pfizer first and second dose vaccines for a total of 1,254 Vaccines. This total also includes additional outreach efforts that day with 17 vaccines administered to those staying at the Roseburg Rescue Mission and the Good Samaritan Inn. “Events of this scale do not just happen overnight or without great planning. I believe we have put together the best and most experienced team around to plan, organize and seamlessly execute mass drive-through events like this one,” stated Commissioner Tim Freeman. “I would like to commend Teresa Mutschler, the Executive Director at DPHN and Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer, our Douglas County Public Health Officer for their incredible work in running this event and for the successful outcome. Our collaborative efforts with members of the DCCRT team, DPHN, Aviva Health, Mercy Medical Center, Lower Umpqua Hospital and our local health care community partners continue to prove time and time again, that we are a leader and model for the rest of the State in how to effectively manage pandemic testing, communications and vaccination efforts. Well done team!” The mass drive-through vaccination event ran from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm, and ALL residents who were previously eligible, as well as ALL newly eligible residents were invited to schedule an appointment. In addition, residents that received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at our drive-through event on March 13, 2021, were invited to return for their second dose at this event, as well. “Our mass vaccine event last weekend was a roaring success; we vaccinated over 1,200 Douglas County residents. It was incredible! Thanks to the collaborative efforts with the Douglas County Commissioners, Aviva, our DCCRT partners and all the local volunteers, we were able to vaccinate more local residents. The clinic went smoothly with minimal wait times. I’m very pleased with how we were able to vaccinate so many people in one day, rivaling efforts in much larger counties,” commented Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer, our Douglas County Public Health Officer. This event comes on the heels of the Thursday, April 1, 2021, mass vaccination effort by Aviva Health and DPHN when 147 North Douglas County residents received the single dose J & J vaccine at their first event outside the Roseburg area. The event in North County was also the debut of “Mobile 1,” one of two mobile medical units Douglas County Commissioners assigned to Aviva Health to bring important health resources to underserved areas of the county.
