Multiple Fire Agencies Respond to Burnt Mountain Fire on Wednesday

(DFPA) Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a natural cover fire Wednesday afternoon near the Burnt Mountain Access Road, located approximately 12 miles west of Winston. Crews arrived on scene of the fire around 12:15 PM and reported a slow-moving fire burning in heavy vegetation. One helicopter was used to slow the spread of the fire while ground resources worked their way around the blaze. Shortly after 1:00 PM, firefighters reported that the forward spread of the Burnt Mountain Fire had been stopped at a half-acre of wildland fuels. Crews will remain on scene of the Burnt Mountain Fire for the remainder of the day, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines. A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the cause of the Burnt Mountain Fire may be vehicle-related. In addition to the DFPA resources that responded to the incident, equipment and personnel from the following agencies also responded to the Burnt Mountain Fire: Tenmile Rural Fire Department, Lookingglass Rural Fire Department, Winston – Dillard Fire Department, and the Coos Forest Protective Association.
